A

Absorbed title

This is the name of the new journal after a journal is absorbed into another journal.

Book/journal title

This is the name of a book or a journal.
In a broad sense, a title includes the name of a series of books or journals, to which the corresponding material belongs.
Material Search interprets titles in such a broad sense.

Bookmark

This is the operation to save material information temporarily.

C

Call mark

This is the Reference number indicating the site where a material is arranged

Classification

This is the operation to represent materials subjects by using numbers and signs.
The system of classification is called 'classification method'. Some of the methods are: Nippon Decimal Classification, Dewey Decimal Classification by Melvil Dewey, Classification of Library of Congress.

Conditional expression

This is a character string of search condition, described by a fixed rule. This represents the condition to evaluate search items, values specified for the items, and combination of both.

Contents note

This is the supplemental information of the contents of a book.
For example, when the book whose title is “Complete Works of Soseki Natsume Vol.II” is composed of “Kokoro”, “Sorekara”, and “Sanshiro”, these titles can be the contents note.

D

Due date

This is the date by which you should return the materials you borrowed from the library.
If you do not return materials even though the due date passed, the materials will be overdue.

Electronic journal

This is a journal you may refer to online. Most of the articles are digitized from paperbound journals by special vendors.
As well as referring to the journals on the Web, you may download the files and print them out.
Electronic journal has the advantages of referring to articles earlier than paperbound journals or of linking to online references.

Fuzzy matching

One word might be written in a variety of notation; such as capital letters, small letters, or flections.
Fuzzy matching absorbs automatically such variation of notation.

G

GMD (General Material Designation)

This is the value to define a material format.
According to GMD, materials are classified into categories; such as 'cartographic material', 'musical score', 'cinema', 'video', or 'audio material'.

Holding period

This is the period of time during which the library lays away a material, which has just become available, for a user who reserved the material. This period is also called 'reservation holding period.'
The user who reserved the material is given priority for borrowing the material during the holding period.
When the holding period expires, the material reservation is automatically canceled, and the library lays away the material for the user who reserved the material next.

ISBN (International Standard Book Number)

This is a value to identify a book.
An ISBN consists of numbers and hyphens that represent the publishing nation, the publisher, the control number and the check digit.

ISSN (International Standard Serial Number)

This is a value to identify a journal.
Value and check digit are designated with hyphens and numbers.

Journal title

This is the name of a journal.
In a broad sense, a title includes the name of a series of journals.
Material Search interprets titles in such a broad sense.

Layaway due date

This is the date by which the library lays away a material, which has just become available, for a user who reserved the material. This due date is also called 'reservation layaway due date.'
The user who reserved the material is given priority for borrowing the material until the layaway due date.
When the layaway due date passes, the material reservation is automatically canceled, and the library lays away the material for the user who reserved the material next.

Loan period

This is the period of time during which you may borrow a material.
The loan period begins on the date you borrow a material and ends on the Due date.

Location

This is the site where a material is located.

NCID

This is an ID number given by National Institute of Informatics.

New arrival

This is a material that the library receives in the past 240 days.

New title

This is the name of the new journal after the title change.

National Institute of Informatics (NII)

This is one of the information/system research organizations of available facility corporation common to universities and colleges.

Nighttime processing

The system automatically maintains and updates data to keep data correct and current for effective processing.
Usually this processing is performed at night.
During nighttime processing, Material Search is not available temporarily or the message '***' appears although you want to reference material information.

Old title

This is the name of an old journal before the title change.

Out of print

This is the state of a book whose copies are out of stock and no longer being produced.

Original title

This is the name of the old journal absorbed into another journal.

Other facility

These are libraries, research institutes, or resource centers of other universities.
In contrast to other facilities, the library where you belong is called 'Private facility'.

Overdue

This is the status of materials that have not been returned to the library even though the date on which they should have been returned (Due date) has passed. Such materials are called 'overdue materials' and those who hold overdue materials are called 'overdue users.'
A penalty may be imposed on overdue users.

Page number

Alphanumeric value to represent the context of a page.
Alphanumeric sign that is basically irrelevant to the number of pages of a material.
Ex.)“1,2,3,4,5,…”, “3,4,5,6,7,…”, “ⅰ,ⅱ,ⅲ,1,2,3,…”

Password

This is a character string that the system uses to authenticate an operator.
You must not reveal your password to any other users.
Personal identification numbers for ATMs are one of passwords.

Private facility

This is the library where you belong. This library includes all of its branches.
In contrast to private library, an external library or facility is called 'Other facility.

R

Among materials of the same type, a material that has the same value about a particular category is called 'related material'.

Renewing

This is the operation to move back the due date of a material you are borrowing, to a later time than the current due date.
Renewing the due date makes the loan period of the corresponding material longer.

Reservation due date

This is the date, set by a user, on which a reservation is canceled if the corresponding material is not available on that date.
You may set the reservation due date to specify a reservation condition, just like you want to borrow the material by a particular date and you want to cancel the reservation if the date passes because you do not need the material any longer.
If the library cannot prepare a corresponding material by the specified reservation due date, the reservation will be automatically canceled.

SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information)

This is the service to provide the latest information of materials that satisfy particular conditions.

Session

This is the unit of exchange with the system. Continuous operation of one user to LIMEDIO is regarded as one session.

SMD (Specific Material Designation)

This segmentalizes GMD.

Note

  • Together with GMD, SMD might be written as 'GSMD' or 'G/SMD'.

Subject

This is the words that represent the topic of the corresponding material.

T

Title

This is the generic name for book title, its Contents note, journal title, and paper title.

Title for which an old title is separated

This is the title of the new journal, for which some journal is separated.

Title from which a new title is separated

This is the title of the old journal from which a new journal is separated.

Transition of journal title

This is the changes of Journal title.

Note

  • The old title and the new title are separate, so that they are treated as being different journals as material information.

Transition title

This is the Journal title, for which was performed.
The following lists a variety of transition titles.

  • Related to is also regarded as a transition title.

U

Uniform title

Some materials have two or more names (Title). For such materials, one name is decided to use as an agreed title of the material. This title is called 'uniform title'.
For example, when the material has the titles 'The Moon Princess', 'The Story of the Bamboo-Cutter', and 'Old Bamboo-Hewer's Story', the uniform title is 'The Tale of the Bamboo-Cutter'.

Union catalog (NII)

This is the database, built and provided by National Institute of Informatics for academic research.
The database includes the information of books and journals that the libraries of universities and colleges in Japan are holding.

User authentication

This is the procedure that the system examines whether an operator is true.
On 本サービス, only when you enter a correct pair of the User ID and the password, the system proves that the user who has the entered User ID is true.
Authenticating a user avoids abuse of your personal information.

V

Volume/issue number

Journals are usually published in series. Journal title or ISSN represents the entire volumes of a journal. In contrast, a volume number represents the information of an individual volume.
For example, 'January issue', 'Vol.123', or 'Volume 2 Issue 5' are individual information.

Volume/issue title

Represents the contents of the journal (volume/issue), i.e., the title of the feature article of a journal.

W

Waiting list

This is a list of users that helps you get information about what number user is you who may borrow the corresponding reserved material.
Your position in the list is set according to the number of prior users who reserved the material or the number of available materials for you.

Note

  • Usually, the number on the waiting list decreases as the library precedes circulation. Note that the number may increase because of book remedies, library schedule, or some other reasons.

Writer

This is a person who wrote the book, journal, or paper.
The writer of a book or a paper is called an 'author' and that of a journal is called 'editor'. To call both together, we use the word 'writer'.
In the event of Material Search, writers include translators, supervising editors, or general editors.
